counselling with Reflex

Get the support you need, when and where you need it.

Sometimes you need someone to help you work through what’s happening. Sometimes something has just happened, and you need help figuring out what comes next.

Reflex provides both.

Our counselling practice offers ongoing, fee-for-service counselling for people who want support with their mental health, relationships, work, trauma and life more generally.

We also provide free, short-term support in the immediate aftermath of trauma or difficult experiences because you shouldn't have to work out what to do next while you're still trying to process what happened.

Two ways we can support you

Ongoing Counselling

Our private counselling practice provides one-on-one, couples and group counselling with qualified counsellors.

You don't need to wait until things have reached breaking point to ask for support. Counselling can give you somewhere to think things through, develop practical strategies, work through difficult experiences and make changes with someone alongside you.

Our private services are available for a fee, with a limited number of sliding-scale appointments available.

Immediate Support

When something difficult or traumatic has happened, the aftermath can be overwhelming, and too many people are left to try to figure out everything alone.

You might not need (or be ready for) ongoing counselling. You might simply need someone to talk to, help making sense of what has happened, support working out your next steps, or help connecting with the right services.

Our short-term intervention service provides free, immediate support following trauma or other difficult experiences.

This might involve a brief counselling intervention, practical support, referrals or help navigating what comes next.

Something has just happened

If you've recently experienced something traumatic or deeply difficult, you don't need to know exactly what kind of help you need before contacting us.

Our short-term support can help you:

  • Process what has happened
  • Understand your options
  • Identify what you need right now
  • Develop practical strategies for the immediate aftermath
  • Connect with appropriate services and supports
  • Make a plan for what comes next

This service is free.

It's designed to be short-term and responsive. If you need ongoing support after that, we'll help you work out what might be appropriate whether that's with Reflex or another service.

Counselling that works for you

We provide counselling in ways that make it easiest to access support. Whether in your own home, or via telehealth, our services are built to be accessible.

Our mobile services

We provide services in the comfort of your own home within the Newcastle region.

Telehealth

Whether by phone,  video, or text-based telehealth, our services are built to suit your communication needs.

A practice where you can be yourself.

Our team is trained to work with LGBTQIA+, neurodiverse and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) clients.

You can expect to be treated with respect, without assumptions about who you are, how you communicate, your relationships, your culture or your experiences. We take the time to understand what matters to you and adapt our approach to suit your needs, communication style and circumstances.

We recognise that identity, culture, disability, neurodivergence and experiences of discrimination can shape how people experience the world and access support. Our aim is to provide a space where you don't have to explain, minimise or defend those parts of yourself in order to receive good care.

Your session helps someone else access the support they need.

Reflex is a charity, and our private counselling practice helps make our wider work possible.

When you pay for counselling with us, you're not only investing in your own support. Your session also helps us provide free, short-term intervention to people who need support in the immediate aftermath of trauma.

It's one way we're working towards a model where people can access the support they need without cost being the thing that determines whether they get it.

We're here to help you work out what's next.

You don't need to arrive with the right words, a diagnosis, or a five-year recovery plan.

Tell us a little about what's happening and we'll work out together what kind of support might be appropriate.

If you're looking for ongoing counselling, we'll help you find the right service.

If something has just happened and you need immediate support, we'll start there.
